IPRO (Inter-professional Research Opportunities)

Hello everyone!
Professionalism has finally arrived to IIT! This past Friday we had IPRO day! IPROs are Inter-professional Research Opportunities where a group of students get together and face either a community or an IIT problem. These students get together and try to solve the problem efficiently using the resources at hand. IIT students must complete two IPROs in order to graduate, but don't worry, it will be fun!
IPROs enable student to engage modern day problems that are actually affecting society. These projects will enable you to work with people from other majors and get first hand experience of how it is like to work with people with different learning backgrounds. One of the reasons why IIT requires IPROs is to prepare students for the modern day working environment. When you get a job, you will be interacting with people that have majored in different areas. IPROs will also stimulate reasoning and the capacity to apply what you have learned into projects that will benefit the community.
IIT has gone Professional, have you?

Malhotra for a Weekend!

Hello everyone!!!

I'm back with some more exciting IIT Experience! This time, I'll be taking you off campus and to Naperville, to my brother-from-another-mother's place, the Malhotras! You see, for my first Thanksgiving experience, my super moving to the groove friend Rishab (the brother-from-another-mother) was superbly nice as to invite me over to his parents' place for the holidays! I was going to be a Malhotra for a week-end!

The exciting Thanksgiving adventure started with a half hour train ride to Naperville, one of the best places to live in within the United States. After a little shopping and exploring we headed off to watch a movie. I met Rishab's really cool parents and his joke-telling brother that recently became a orthodontist. Rishab says that he has a crazy family, I say they are full of awesomeness!! This first day was only the warm up, the actual Thanksgiving fest was the next day!

We woke up at 10:00am and got ready to head off to a Malhotra friend's place. The Malhotra family and other friends and relatives had been celebrating Thanksgiving at this same house for the past ten years! The people were so friendly and polite, but at the same time extremely funny (like Rishab) and full of fun! The food was AMAZING! It is definitely Indian Food and turkey with gravy, but my gosh it was good. As if that were not enough, the dessert, pie with chocolate, was the icing on the cake. An awesome experience, I was so glad that I got the chance to experience my first Thanksgiving in such a fantastic Malhotra-like fashion! To end the fantastic Thanksgiving experience, we took advantage of Black Friday and bought a few things. What a holiday!

Here at IIT, anywhere on campus, even behind office corners behind cabinets, you will meet fantastic people like Rishab that will help you make your Holidays and your IIT experience one of the best and one of the most memorable of your lives. At IIT you will find people from all over the World and with such different backgrounds that it will seem that the World had suddenly come together to meet and befriend.

Don't miss the fun people! Hope everyone had an amazing holiday!

P.S: Many thanks to the Malhotra family and friends for making my first Thanksgiving one of the most outstanding and everlasting experiences! Thanks brother Rishab!

Boat Cruise for IIT! The Floating Fun!

Hello again! I'm back with more updates on IIT fun! This past Friday night we had a spectacular event, the Casino Boat Cruise! Residence Hall Association, along with other IIT groups, organized a full on boat cruise on the Odyssey, one of the largest boats on the Five Great Lakes. The Odyssey's kitchen staff presented a delicious cuisine. After the food, the party started! For those that wanted to shake it up, the dance floor was rocking to the DJ's music, and for those that wanted show their tricks under their sleeves, the Casino was open for people to play poker, blackjack, and roulette. And for those that just wanted the week's working stress to float away and just chill out, the boat's deck was open for amazing views of the Chicago Skyline. As if this weren't enough already, the boat cruise ended with an auction. People could bid for prizes and the highest bidder could win an ipod nano, a 19" Tv, an all in one scanner/copier, and more! It was one of the most amazing nights, and this is just the beginning!

Trick-or-Treat, Smell My Feet, Give Me Something Good to EaT!

Halloween has arrived to IIT and it is time to celebrate! With the excitement and the decorations around campus, the air of Halloween is finally becoming palpable. The Commons, our dinning hall, has been decorated with a Vampire Homer Simpson (spooky no?), spiders, and a huge pumpkin, while the residence halls have spooked out creepy artistic designs on the doors for this year's Spookiest door competition. A number of students are milling around Chicago getting new costumes, while other creative ones are making their own and getting ready to party. Throughout campus, dozens of events are going on just to celebrate this year's Halloween. The pumpkin launch is a great example and such a fun event! Please do not confuse this with a pumpkin lunch, this is a pumpkin launch! You actually get to catapult juicy orange projectiles! Pumpkin carving hasn't dropped out of the fun either! Students got to carve their very own pumpkins to decorate the darkest corners of their rooms. Ladies and gentlemen, it's going to be a full moon here at IIT, don't miss the fun!

Chicago Marathon! Joining the fun!

October 12, 7:59am: the air is tense and something is lingering in the air. Throughout Chicago and the rest of the United States there is a palpable excitement, something big is about to begin. With a surge of pure excitement within the past 60 seconds, you suddenly realize that over 40,000 people have just made their first step in the 2008 Bank of America Marathon, one of Chicago's greatest events. With approximately 26 miles to go, the runners are giving it all their best. And the best part of it? The course of the marathon went right through the heart of IIT! People from neighboring places came over to IIT to watch the event. Even helicopters kept hovering over IIT to film the event. Free t-shirts, sodas, and food were given out. The IIT community once again, like so many times, formed part of Chicago's events. This time though, one of the competitors was actually an IIT Undergraduate Admissions Counselor! Yay! Being part of IIT, being part of the excitement!

UniversIITy, The Beginning

University is a big word, not only because it has ten letters in it but because it marks a turning point in life. Many have a hard time deciding what they want to spend the rest of their life doing, and what university is the best place to train themselves for their career.

For me, university definitely marked the beginning of a new way of life, and I decided to take my first steps at the Illinois Institute of Technology, in Chicago, Illinois.

Upon setting foot on campus, the first thing I noticed was the unique atmosphere and the creative architecture. Two minutes after I had arrived, Undergraduate Admissions staff gave me a warm welcome and settled me into the dorms. It is really amazing how IIT's staff dedicate their time to making student's from around the World feel welcome. That day, I set my mind to stay and study for my career, Biomedical Engineering.
