Back to Work!

Hello Everyone!

After a nice, not long enough Spring Break, we students are back to work.

Just some news from last week, IIT was honored to host Dr. Michael Shuler, the distinguished Robert Pritzker Award Winner, who gave the lecture "Building a Body-on-a-Chip: Towards Better Drug Development". Apart from most of the Biomedical Engineering staff and many students, both undergraduate and graduate being there, President John Anderson was also present. It was an honor having you here Dr. Shuler!

Now as for IIT's Admission Office, we will be having various Admit Receptions going on starting this week. If you are an admitted student, we highly recommend you attend one of these receptions to better understand what your next steps are going to be. This will hopefully make your transition into college much smoother. The following website has all the dates for our Admit Receptions:
http://www.iit.edu/undergrad_admission/visit/admit_reception.shtml

If you plan to attend the Admit Reception located on IIT's Main Campus, please feel free to join us for a campus tour with your family.

For students who are not yet admitted or are planning to apply and would like to visit campus, we do have campus tours at 12:45pm Monday through Friday. Additionally, we have a Saturday Visit coming up. It's this Saturday, March 26th. To sign up for this visit, please go to the following website and scroll down to the section Fall and Spring Saturday Visits:

For more information or any questions at all, please feel free to contact us by phone at 312.567.3025 or by email at admission@iit.edu.

NightHawks Needed!

Hello everyone!
If you haven't realized already, we're almost done with classes!

I did however want to mention that the Office of Undergraduate Admission is looking for students interested in the Nighthawk Program.
The Nighthawk Program is an overnight program that started recently and involves IIT students hosting prospective students for one night. Nighthawks will hang out with the guests and show them what life is like on campus.
There are some very interesting benefits for being a Nighthawk.
Currently the Office of Undergraduate Admission is looking for female hosts.
If you are interested in the program and you would like to know more, please contact us at 312-567-3025.

Good luck with your finals!

Hello Summer, and an Elephant!

Hello!
Hope everyone is having a fantastic summer and enjoying the break to the fullest!

Although it is summer and most people are on a break, there are still a number of students that are still on IIT campus, either working, taking a class, doing some sort of enlightening research, or simply sticking around and exploring the city of Chicago.

If you are one of these people staying on campus, you might have noticed a rather amazing sight...there's an elephant on campus!!! Well not a real elephant anyway...I know cause I tried giving it peanuts from the Admission Office and it didn't even flinch...hey, got to check right? You never know! Nevertheless, its magnificence is quite overwhelming.

Anyways, this cool looking elephant's name is Nomkhubulwane, and she's one of the elephants from the Human Elephant Foundation, an organization that helps create awareness in people of the world we live in.

Things like sustainability and keeping an ecological balance in the world are some of the organization's main objectives. The elephants, like the one we have standing in front of Crown Hall, are made out of recycled material. The Human Elephant Foundation hopes that these elephants will inspire and cause people to become more involved with protecting the environment we live in and create a better tomorrow. More information is given through the organization's main website:
http://www.humanelephant.org/

If you stop by campus, please do say hi to Nomkhubulwane and try to give her some peanuts, I'm sure she'll love it!

Hello!

Hello Everyone!
Long time no blog! I know I've been off the radar for a little while but I'm back with some info about the interesting things going on around campus.
So first thing's first...the weather...we need to start with the weather. Two days ago the sun was shinning and it was fairly warm...it was nice..Yesterday, it got back down around freezing point again...Yes, freezing point end of March. The moral of this story? Ladies and gentlemen, if you are not from Chicago, be warned, the weather is crazy! Be prepared to have some drama with the weather...and the wind for that matter.

Now next up, we have a great event going on. Tonight we have RIITMO! Come to the Bog at IIT and enjoy some Hispanic music and dance to it! Otherwise come for some great food and have a great night! Next week at the BOg: Game show night! A night full of prizes!

Please keep in mind Preview Weekend for admitted students will be on April 9th and 10th. This will be a chance for admitted students to get a feel for life on campus and what it feels like to live on campus!

Women's Day is also coming up for our female applicants. So keep an eye out for that!

Hope everyone has wonderful, yet safe, weekend! Enjoy!

Hello and Welcome Back!

Hello Hello!
I hope everyone had a fantastic time back at home for the holidays!

I actually went back to Bolivia for winter break after a year and a half! For those who do not know where Bolivia is and constantly confuse it with somewhere like Bulgaria, Bolivia is a land-locked country right in the middle of South America. It was great going back home and escaping the freezing Chicago cold for a month. I enjoyed being with my family and had some of my dad's awesome home cooked food. Yummy! Hey, don't get me wrong, you can always enjoy good food around the world, but you will always miss the food with which you grew up with.

Anyways, it's been two weeks since classes started again here at IIT. Even with the cold, students have been buzzing busily around with the different events going on. The Student Organization Fair, for example, just happened a few days ago and students interested in knowing more about specific organizations got the chance to sign up for them.

Currently, there are some pretty big things going on on campus. First of all, the Leadership Academy Scholarship, a full tuition scholarship offered by the Leadership Academy that IIT students can apply to after they've enrolled. Applications are due February 5th!

Another big thing going on right now is the Action to Provide Relief in Haiti, organized by Engineers Without Borders (EWB) and Haiti Outreach. EWB has been collecting donations at the MTCC Bridge to help the people in Haiti who have been struck by the catastrophic earthquake on January 12th, 2010. News reports estimate at least 3 million people affected. If you get a chance to walk by MTCC Bridge, please contribute to a good cause and help Haiti!

Please keep an eye out for more events coming up soon! Have a great one! :D

Winter Break!

Hello!
As the first signs of snow appeared last night, I came to realize that Winter was finally upon us and that I would soon be heading home for Winter Break. I felt at ease and excited that I was going home for the first time in a little under a year and a half. However, that was also when I realized with a certain concern that finals...were also here. In fact, finals start tomorrow! The university is buzzing with the sounds of students as they are working hard to get their final projects in and studying to do well on the exams.
It has been a wonderful and productive semester here at IIT and no doubt that more excitement will come soon enough. But before that, it's time for some well deserved rest and a nice holiday with the family!
Good luck to everyone during finals and have an awesome Winter Break! For those international students staying on campus over the break, get comfy warm and enjoy skiing around in the white fluffiness of winter :D Enjoy!
I'll see you all very very soon!

Justine Bennett was at the Bog? Yep! Homecoming this week? Yep!

Hello Everyone!
I hope everyone had a nice long and relaxing weekend!
As always, many of our IIT students have been going to downtown Chicago (our "backyard playground") to enjoy the sights and sounds of the city. But here, right on campus, we've been having and will be having multiple activities going on!
Just take last Thursday for example...we had an awesome singer, Justine Bennett, come to Illinois Institute of Technology and perform at one of IIT's most prominent social areas, the BOG! Justine's angelic voice echoed gracefully throughout the BOG and her performance was simply beautiful, with a tinge of amusement in between! Simply great! Check out her website : http://justinebennett.com/

Coming up this week is...IIT HOMECOMING! I hope you guys are equipped with Scarlet Hawk gear and all ready for the excitement to come! Here's a small sneak peek:

Tuesday, Sept. 22nd: Women's Volleyball at 7:00pm in Keating Sports Center...Free T-shirts and food!

Friday, Sept. 25: Club Niite from 9:00pm to Midnight...Get ready to dancy dance in front of MSV!
